Mat & Kat's big bike trip
Day 2 Oropesa del Mar
Mat: I can barely feel yesterday's ride in my legs, which is a great sign. It's cloudy today and a little cool, which is nice. The route along the coast this morning was pleasant, with endless fields of orange trees and the occasional peach grove.
The fields gave way to a long, boring approach to Castellón, which eventually brought us close to the city and we stopped for coffee and tostadas at 12:00.
We took a detour to find some Sombras (got five in total!) and another detour because a wedding party had closed a road to do a massive mascleta. It featured a big Spanish flag made out of smoke, which I've never seen before.
Between Benicassim and Oropesa there was a beautiful off road coastal section through cuttings and a long, cool tunnel. We came into Oropesa del Mar about 14:00 having done 61km and feeling proud of ourselves. Got some lunch from the supermarket and lay on the beach all afternoon reading.
We've been trying out a new navigation app called Komoot which is a hundred billion times better than Google Maps, and we'll definitely be using it going forwards.
