Kat & Mat's big bike trip
Day 59 Dubrovnik
Today is our last in Croatia and we will have spent more time here than any other country on our trip - 23 days compared to 18 in Italy. So we're quite familiar with some things:
- it's very long and narrow
- it's extremely beautiful
- the people are very friendly
- almost everyone speaks English, just a few older people only spoke German
- there are LOTS of German tourists, particularly in the north
- everyone up and down Croatia is mad about the Split football team Hajduk, more particularly with their supporters club Torcida
- almost every apartment has a toasted sandwich maker and a very long handled wooden spoon
- quite a bit of the old stuff has been rebuilt following various wars, particularly the Homeland war in the 1990s
- a surprising number of places only accept cash
- people mostly eat meat and fish (but mostly meat)
- the range of shops and products is quite limited (particularly fruit and veg)
Overall it's been fantastic and a real highlight of our trip.
We finished the day with a visit to a photo exhibition about the 1990s Homeland war and reportage from other conflicts, then a trip up in the cable car for a view over the city and walked back down the hill.
Love, Kat & Mat x
