Kat & Mat's big bike trip
Day 16 Salernes
Kat: today was hilly! 900+ metres of elevation over 80km. It feels like all the days up to now have been training for this.
We left Aix en Provence and passed through small towns on leafy country roads. It was steady traffic for a while then became much quieter. As we skirted through the natural park there was hardly any vehicles and just forest and meadows on either side. Beautiful blue sky and intensely verdant green leaves. It's sunny, not too hot and the route has been well shaded.
As we approached a little village we were about to hit our 1000km of the trip, so we stopped on a deserted road to film a celebratory roll past the camera. We had just turned back when a car came down the road heading straight for Mat's mobile on a tripod in the middle of the road! He had to race towards the car gesturing at it to stop so he could snatch up the phone.
After the last couple of hills we rolled down into Salernes where were staying in a chambre d'hote. It's been intense but beautiful.
The sun was shining so we had a dip in their swimming pool (a bit fresh, 20C) before walking down into the village. There was a wine tasting festival taking place so it was quite lively.
