Mat & Kat's big bike trip

Day 37 Novigrad

📅 Saturday 16 May 2026 🚴 68 km 📍 Croatia
Novigrad
After 4 days off the bikes we're finally back on the road and after 10 km we crossed into Slovenia in what must be the least impressive border crossing ever, a small sign completely covered in stickers. Slovenia is really lovely. We spent about 30km there almost entirely on cycle paths and almost entirely off-road. It's beautiful, I'd like to come back and see the rest of it. The drivers are incredibly polite to cyclists. And then with zero fuss we passed through into Croatia, our third country of the day! Croatia started with a very long uphill but we managed it. From there it was about 20km to Novigrad, our destination for the day. It's a pretty little seaside town. First impressions of Croatia: very tidy, quiet roads (so far) and friendly people. We plan to be here for almost three weeks, really looking forward to it. In Novigrad we bumped into a British cyclist Dominic who had ridden up from Greece. It was good to pick his brains about the route south - Montenegro and Albania are very hilly and have extremely busy roads apparently.
